Internal Storage
In a computer there are three primary types of storage, one of which is internal storage. Internal storage is the default form of storage for a computer, and is used to store programs, files and applications needed the run the computer, as well as any files added by the user. it consists of a hardware component found inside the computer. It differs from external and cloud storage in the sense that it is both not removable or transferable between other devices, as the component needed to store the data is fixed into the computer. One thing it does share is how it is a physical component, like external storage.
External Storage
External storage is the second primary type of storage. It consists of a component separate from a computer, used mainly to transfer data to other computers or devices physically. Some instances of external storage devices include flash drives , external hard drives and disks. To use an external drive it must first be physically connected to a computer, where it will then temporarily become internal storage, until it is taken out again. You must also make sure it is properly formatted in order to make it compatible with the computer. It is similar to cloud storage in that both are mobile, but cloud storage does not have to rely on physical components to work.
Cloud Storage
Cloud storage is one of the more recent forms of data storage. It consists of remote data storage servers located in specialized centers, controlled and regulated by companies. To use it, someone would upload the data they want to store to the application or service a company provides, where it is then managed on the remote storage servers. Because data is stored on remote servers owned by a provider, it is accessible on all devices and is transferable. It is also flexible, and can form itself to fit however much is needed. In general, is a virtual and mobile type of storage.
Where To Use It
Internal storage is used when storing files that are integral to a computers functionality. These files cannot be transferred between devices unless moved to external storage, so it is best to add only the important files, as internal storage has a fixed limit as to what can be stored as well.
External Storage is used when looking for an extra way to store files, or create back ups of them. You can also use them to encrypt important files that would be less safe on internal storage.
Cloud storage can be used as a “utility’ storage. It can be used for work and business files that need to be easily accessible from anywhere.
